Hi all, I'm thinking of stepping down as a mod. I still love the PCE scene and my collection and a lot of the folks here (and elsewhere), but I don't play as much day-to-day any more and it's come to my attention that there are some folks who apparently see me as a divisive figure. I thought it might be related to a particular community split event, but it turns out it runs deeper. I have no idea why I'm on folks' shit list, but if my presence as a mod is keeping people away from this forum, I owe it to the forum to step down. This isn't my forum. I moderate as a volunteer and as a member of this forum community, and if I'm a detriment to it I shouldn't be modding.
This thread is not intended to become a proverbial Festivus pole or a place for public back-patting, but I'm also not locking the thread, because if there's something that NEEDS to be aired, it should be. But I would appreciate PMs from folks letting me know what's up, either pro or con. I'm not interested in becoming the next Nightwolve. I do care about the PC Engine as a system and about the folks who enjoy it, and I don't want to be a totem of something keeping people away from it. It's not fair to others and it's not fair to me.

It's not up to others to dictate who the moderators are here. I don't see a reason for you to step down, and nobody has mentioned anything or complained to me.

I haven't heard from any nay-sayers, though that doesn't mean anything. I've been moderating pretty conservatively lately, especially since there hasn't been anything requiring mod attention. I will stay on for now, but I am going to try to be very attentive to issues. If folks do not trust me and want to raise issues, there's always Paul. I appreciate the kind words I've received. I know the PCE scene seems to pick up feuds and run with them, and I'm not interested in being part of the problem if I can help it. That said, as a mod, sometimes you don't have much of a choice. You just get shoved into the middle because you have to make a call. Thanks for your patience, everyone. It's also been a stressful couple weeks outside this forum, so a bunch of stuff just landed all at once and I needed to really suss it out. Let's all keep being our awesome selves.

You got caught in the middle, which is a shit place to be because no matter what side you fall into,it will piss the other side off.

After reading your post....you need to do what's best for you honestly spenoza ,You enjoy being a gamer in this community. And 100% honestly you leaving isn't going to bring back anyone and the devs that have choosen to leave have made that choice %100! and they will not be coming back!..I myself am on discord more than this forum. And no you're not NW,not even close bro.

Yeah, I definitely get ZERO nw vibes from you Spenny. If people disagree with something you've done, it's on them for leaving or not joining up. I wouldn't sweat it, I'm cool with our small community.

I don’t know what brought this up originally and I don’t care. If it has anything to do with the way you literally try to control how people talk then I agree with whoever is complaining. “Tone policing” is the term used when you described it. One can violate the rules without actually violating the rules, just by harming the spirit of the forum and of course the only arbitration is in your head...I despise this. It’s like something from early science fiction and it brings with it a heaviness worse than Facebook.
Other than that I have no complaints. You’re probably imagining it. Don’t think about people so much, spend more time on ideas.

Zeta, if you are referring to my posts in Polymega and creation of a PCE Fighting Games thread, that’s not tone policing. I didn’t ever tell you how you could or couldn’t post. I never took any mod action. That was all me posting as a user and member of the forum and sharing my views which just happened to not align with yours. The only thing being a mod affected there was you can’t block/ignore me. Disagreeing on posting style is not the same as tone policing.

Hopefully you're not still mulling over this decision, haha. Case closed, you're still mod!!

Yowzza! I didn't even realize that there was a messy divorce that occurred between members here (unless I blocked it out). I've made so many friends in this community over the last 14 years that I'll be zig-zagging across the tracks like a dog in heat, but that doesn't mean I'm any less a member here specifically. Glad you stayed on, Spenoza.
