Seems Daft Punk has split up. They now go their separate ways.

Darn, I was hoping to at least get another Tron soundtrack out of them. I’m not sure if this a joke or not but it’s very funny to me. The idea that what you’re missing most is a follow up to their cash-in record and not one last banger. (Sadly, very few bands release “farewell” tracks when breaking up. In fact I can only think of one at the moment, R.I.P. by Zibra, which is a very good song...) As a long time fan of Daft Punk and of dance music in general I’m sort of puzzled as to why this is even news, why some people are sad like it was an actual active working project that is now stopped. I wrote this on another forum already...but I was never comfortable with them leaving the club world and being crowded entertainment royalty...which seemed to happen instantaneously when RAM came out..suddenly everyone worships these DJs like they were actual celebrities, what? Tony Wilson once said, when in fact he was quoting Bill Drummond, that [acid] house was the first working class music since Elvis and I feel the same. To me house music is great for many reasons but one of the main ones is that there aren’t any royalty. There is no Clapton or Beatles or Beyoncé. Your value in the club is judged track by track...Daft Punk haven’t released anything in ages, haven’t toured since Alive (best show I’ve ever been too, but now 14 years ago). Anyone interested in this kind of music may want to...try going to Beatport or something. There is nobody quite like these two, but there is more good house music that anyone could ever hear in their life.

Darn, I was hoping to at least get another Tron soundtrack out of them. Given that tron 3 is suppose to be in the works again but just because daft punk has ended it doesn't mean, either of them won't stop composing music any more.

Indeed I would bet money that at least one of them will release something soon. My theory is that one of them caught whatever Kanye has and won’t do anything anymore and the other is dying to work again and this drove the decision to end the band.

I think a much more likely explanation hinges on the fact that Bangalter has a history of severe tinnitus, to the point that it has endangered his hearing.
