Hi!
I've recapped and changed the infamous gear in my CD-ROM2 Unit. After hooking it up to the interface i saw the little red display lit up, so I thought I fixed it, since it was completely dead at the beginning (not even the display lighted up) but when I tried to load a CD I heard a really faint "click" and that's all. the CD does not spin and the lens never moves.
what can i do to fix this?
Thanks in advance and stay safe!
Dario

Make sure you didn't install the larger ribbon cable backwards. It goes in with the contacts facing outwards away from the center of the CD drive.
Otherwise if that isn't the problem then the next thing to do is try another CD lens.
Bad caps can effect CD reading as well but more often then not, CDs will still spin up when caps are bad. The CDs just don't read/play well.

I checked the large and small ribbon cable, and they're plugged them in the correct orientation (I cleaned them just to be sure). The drive still refuses to spin the disk, but now sometimes i can hear the lens motor seemingly trying, and failing, to move the lens.
I checked with the lid opened and the lens lights up, but other than that nothing. Can the lens motor be the issue?

Not likely it's the motor. Anytime I've come across a bad motor it will still work. Just reads Discs poorly.
Check that neither one of the Lens ribbon cables has a tear in it. They rip pretty easily.
The lens should bob up and down when hitting play on the CD drive. If that doesn't happen then some issue with the lens is usually the issue. IF it isn't the lens, then it's usually a faulty chip on the motherboard. Hopefully this is not the case.
