So I received a question from Gredler about the PC-Engine in my profile picture. It's from a personal project I did back in 2006 to learn myself the 3D application SoftImage XSI. I figured it's been collecting dust on my computer for all those years, I should post some higher resolution images. Here's a beauty render. The shading really isn't up to modern day standards. It was rendered with MentalRay... GASP!! Here's a render with standard shading and no decal textures. Some wireframes.

Last one. Let me know what you guys think. While the model has an interior it is not accurate. I've been contemplating developing it a bit further and perhaps 3D printing it. Not sure if there would be a market for it. Probably not, haha.

Thanks for sharing these gorgeous models. In another thread you mentioned you mentioned the year in which these were modeled which is even more impressive. Today hard surface modeling has so many shortcuts that I imagine this was not quick or easy to make so accurate! The control edge work is particularly clean letting the shading blend nicely across the corners of the surfaces, something people often omit still to this day, and having them shows your understanding for the lighting model.
I never learned SiXSI but always was curious about it (and probably unrelated, but cinema 4d). Did you boolean any of these shapes or mostly cuts and extrusions? It's just so damn clean.
Fantastic work, thanks again for sharing!

Thank you for the kind words Gredler. I did spend a lot of time and effort making sure to get the bevelled edge work right. It's so important. But I can understand why modelers avoid it when they possible. It's a pain to do it and it kind of locks your model in, preventing you from making elementary changes to the base shape without having to re-do the bevels. It's especially tricky in areas where bevels of varying width meet.
Booleans? Yep! Used them in the recessed areas that contain the text such as 'PAD', 'ANT SWITCH', 'ON/POWER/OFF', 'CH', etc.

GOURGEOUS!! Especially given the age of the software used.

Thank you Sir! I'm sorely tempted to model the PCE-GT at some point.
