I was just contemplating gaming videos on YouTube, how they're either some guy trying to make themselves a YT star, just raw footage, or someone spending the first 5 minutes filming themselves setting things up wrong and playing badly because they've not read instructions...
...and I wondered what hasn't been done in terms of video for PCE? What is missing, or what would people like to see? There are tons of opinion/review videos already, is there anything left to do that's original or interesting?
I'm not planning specifically on doing something myself but just wondered what you all think.

I think there’s plenty still to cover. Beautiful games like Seiya Monogatari are barely mentioned on YouTube and many other Japanese RPG’s for the consoles are non existent except for on Japanese only websites. I guess we could do with the equivalent of Spida1a’s review channel (well presented and narrated reviews) but doing PC Engine releases instead of TG-16. It would require Japanese speakers of course explaining just what the hell the game is about.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot about the impact it made over in the UK, it’s coverage in UK mags like CVG / EGM / Raze etc and how it helped kickstart the grey import era and on companies like Micro Media / Console Concepts who were big distributors. What happened to these companies?
Another one could be visual instructions on how to mod the console or fix common problems like loose Scart connections from poor 80’s mods or even capacitors and gears in cd-rom units?
Future ones could be about the PCE Mini and how to hack into it to add additional games.
Some of current favourite ones are Spida1a (Chris Bucci), Gamesack Chronturbo.

People talking about trivial (and sometimes wrong) info anyone can get with 2 minutes of googling, making forced jokes/skits or memes and making videos be about themselves (aka appearing on camera more than game footage) is what turns me off about game videos.
The content I like the best are ones where the presenter's voice/image is not given any sort of focus and is just a vessel for personal experiences and nontrivial information about PCE games. Like Chris Bucci is the gold standard alongside CGQ (they appear in the videos but not overly so), and Game Sack is the bad opposite of it.
Honestly, for me a narrated video version of Kurisu's CRPG Addict style articles of PCE RPGs, of which most of the time it's the only information about the game in English, would be more than perfect: it would give me no excuse to not watch them. If you focus on stuff unknown to the west including informed impressions of what the hell is going on in the Japanese heavy PCE library or other new information about PCE related companies and developers, you will have a following in no time. Doesn't even have to be PCE related, people are starved of Japanese only games information. Just look at that memey ThorHighHeels channel.

I love watching production and historical breakdown content, like splashwave and gaming historian etc. More development breakdown and creation analysis would be rad. I would love to see more about the though process, techniques, and hacks/workarounds to achieve the pce library's unique contents.

Either deeply insightful about the game's design, or deeply introspective with the player and his experiences.
I enjoy a good history video, too, but nearly every one that I've watched about a topic I'm already very familiar with has struck me as lightweight, to say nothing about how frequently some people seem to get their facts flat-out wrong.
If I had all the time in the world, one type of video I'd like to try making is a walkthrough of a PC Engine magazine. Years ago, esteban made a demo where he took a recording I had made of myself spot-translating a few pages, cleaned it up and added background music, then put that together with a slideshow of high-resolution scans, complete with sensible panning and zooming. I thought the result showed a lot of promise. The only problem was the amount of time it would have taken to make one complete video, even with me just skimming and picking out the best bits.

Personally all I want to see is longplays. As soon as a person starts talking I am not interested, because...nobody knows anything. I'd watch something from an actual researcher, but nobody in the world of youtube wants to do that ever.

Double agreed. Same with Podcasts...I like when the hosts wax nostalgic or actually talk about a game instead of regurgitate a wiki. I can tolerate some incorrect facts(unlike DMD) as long as it's just a slip of the tongue or brain fart as long as the conversation keeps rolling. I do not feel(or care) that it's gonna turn into some fake news... and if it does, FB will blow up (remember the Shadowlands drama...)

I have a few 1-credit replays but all with hand-cam. I think having direct feed only, can lead to emulation cheating “cough” world of longplays *cough* I’m probably going to do commentary on these when I get around to it for some tips and strategies. I want less people who know nothing about the console talking about it like they are pros. Totally. People who have lived for decades with these machines talk like it. They don’t perfectly pronounce all the terminology because they have a sort of familiarity mush-mouth. They say “ROM ROM” which noobs and poseurs and game brokers never do. Their favorite games aren’t all $$$. They’ve “had time yet” to play hours and hours of multiplayer. They don’t ask anyone how to clean a controller and they don’t know any videos to send you to because they figured that shit out like anyone who wasn’t an idiot did back in their single room dorm when they ate SPAM sandwiches every day. They have respect for even bad games because even bad games cost $50 new. They don’t collect converters because they are SO GLAD to be rid of them. They may not have a PVM because believe it or not that isn’t required.
