Yup, after years of promising Steam codes, it's suddenly an Epic exclusive. Even the physical copies will be just a code in a box.
As you can expect, people are mad.

People want to play Shenmue on a PC?
I must not know anything at all about gaming anymore...

There's a lot of hate for Epic Store, mostly for good reason as far as I can tell.
I'm not overly happy that my physical copy (that I paid extra for) isn't actually a physical copy any more. I don't see why they can't just give backers their Steam keys and sell non-backers the Epic version.
They lost a lot of goodwill by doing this at the last minute.

Well, I put in my refund request...I'm not paying extra for a physical box with a download code inside.

I.. cannot fully understand the ire over the Epic Store. It’s just another launcher on the PC. It’s not like it does anything horrible to your computer, afaik. People complain about Steam dominance, but then complain when stuff isn’t on Steam. I have learned to tune most of this out these days.

This whole situation bums me out. I was a pretty hardcore Shenmue fan when it came out (played through the import when it was released, even!) and I would have bought it on Steam for sure. I hope it can one day come to Steam again because I don't want to set up an account with Epic. For now I'll just pass on it.

What makes it console specific? It's been on steam for a while, and I thought it had a port around the same time as xbox og? Sega...totally forsaken in 2019. It’s like they never rocked our world at all. You totally forgot.

I remember the hype for the for the first game, but was disappointed with the gameplay, so the second never interested me. The third game being a launcher exclusive still makes me curious what difference it makes to people, but I already have epics store installed for development purposes and steam for my old library, maybe there's implications I am unaware of?

I don’t know why you’d think of 2 as an XBox game. It was a MASSIVE release for Sega, done dusted and released on Dreamcast before they even started porting it to XB. The first one didn’t even come out on XBox. The XB ver of 2 literally came with a movie of someone playing part 1 so you’d know what was going on. It was a half ass port done in a rush to appease their new masters. Microsoft’s plan seems to have worked perfectly on you though.

What else besides PC and XB did it come out here for?

It was Euro only in English but extremely common in the US because every GameStop stocked it. Regardless, it’s not like it didn’t exist if it didn’t come out in the US. This is a PCE forum after all...do you think of Dracula X as a SNES game?

Haha yeah I was as equally ignorant about this stuff back then too. I only ever had a Turbo without CD, and didn't know about Dracula X on PCE until much later. My only import experience didn't go well so I never imported stuff as a kid, and I don't remember seeing it in stores.
