Well, at least Saturn Bomberman multiplayer exists, though it's far from HD!

It's always been rumoured that the Hi-Ten Bomberman hardware was the core starting point for the PC-FX hardware ... before PC-FX video chips were gutted back to SD-resolution.
There was also the info that PC-FX was originally going to use a Hudson-designed 32-bit CPU (presumably from the Hi-Ten), before that was deemed inadequate to compete with the upcoming Playstation and Saturn, and was replaced with the NEC V810 CPU.
I'm hoping that this new resurgence of interest in the Hi-Ten will lead to some information about Hudson's missing 32-bit CPU becoming available, especially if it was actually manufactured in test-quantities and used on the Hi-Ten board.

While 10 player B Man is special, I’ve come to learn that quality comes before quantity. Bomberman 93, 94, and the smaller boards in Bomberman SS are likely a vastly superior game to HiTen. Also, it’s hard to find nine other people who even know not to push B, never mind being good at Bomberman, unless you’re at a convention or something.

FYI, Iwasaki just posted some information about this game. I haven't read it yet but there might be some rough specs of it.

Google translate made an absolute mess of the blog (again!), but I could read enough to see that the core game was running on a PC-clone, and directly driving a Cirrus Logic VGA chip (presumably with some extra logic to output the correct high-def TV signal).

I have read it. I'll try to put some of the specs here:
System: PC-AT compatible Language: Assembly or C. The original programmer couldn't remember but it's probably assembly. Too bad the source code is lost. Graphics card: Some Cirrus Logic SVGA card Input: Two PCE core graphics each with a RS-232 serial port hacked into a Tennokoe Bank-like cart to communicated with the PC. Each PCE used a multitap to provide 10-player support. Sound: I'm not sure about this one. It seems that they just used chip sound provided by the two PCEs, using the RS-232 ports to tell them to output the audio. A lot of assets were reused from the original PCE game.

A group I was in ran Bomberman tournaments at cons through the 90s and early 2000s. We started with Super Bomberman 2 and ended with SS. We just never used a newer one than SS because they aren't good. I think 2001 or 2002 would have been our last. These were almost always at anime cons on the east cost and in the midwest.
Getting ten people to not hit B is a sometimes a Sisyphean task.
Seeing your character in ten player mode is almost as hard sometimes. When you're using a massive projector in a dimly lit bar its easy, on a 23" CRT not always so much...

How about Super Bomberman R? Didn't that have 8 player mode? I saw a copy last week of the PS4 Shiny edition and I was wondering if it was any good.

Tons of friends would come over & we would mostly play BM 93, & there were always more people than my Turbo Tap could handle, ah, those were the days my friend!
