So, I'm going to try to play some SonSon 2 this month for Together Retro over at the Racketboy forums. I've dabbled with it in the past but that game is pretty challenging. Any advice for how to ease into the game and not just get completely crushed?

It's a challenging but doable game. Some online information for obtaining the Special Armor and the Max Level Staff will help you. Someone made a fan-site years ago, has complete maps and lots of tips. It was also the very first pc engine game translated, back in 1997! A truly kick-butt exclusive from capcom...really tight platforming and a great "Asian" soundtrack by the Mega man 2 composer www.changevworld.com/sonson2/sonson2.htm

Once you buy the "fist" power-up you'll be able to break certain walls throughout the game. This is how to acquire your staff powerups. It's limited use though so don't go breaking every wall you come across. I don't have all the correct locations memorized so I never make it all the way through the game. That needs remedied, I guess.

Hell of a game! One of my go-tos when people say "bU-bU-bUt ThE pC-EnGiNe DiDn'T hAVe AnY gOoD pLaTfOrMeRz" It's essentially a remix of the arcade game Black Tiger, but with cartoon-ey graphics slapped on... awesome!
