I've heard of people hacking apart a SuperCD to enable an LT to fit, and I think this is sickening. The reason someone might do this is because the adaptor is so rare and expensive. However... I couldn't shake the fact that it looks a LOT like an AV booster. When one appeared for £15, I snapped it up.
Well, it fits an LT, as expected, and the bonus is that the bevelling on the back also would fit into the super CD.
There's just a riser underneath that needs to be ground down. The plan is to use a broken Engine (for the port) and the AV adaptor to make a really cheap adaptor!

Ok, I decided to dremel off the pce connector. I guess the next step is to cut a hole in the AV booster board before I attach the connector back on. Gonna use epoxy putty.
Then cut a hole in the back to fit the connector through (tricky) and then solder 30 wires between them.
hm, I'll need to cut traces from the internal connector too.

Curious on how this turns out. I wonder if an RAU-30 could be used to connect an LT to a Super CD. I have an RAU-30 but it does not seem to work. All I get is a black screen when I tried it with the Supergrafx and the briefcase. All my connections seem good as I tested with the meter. I have a Super CD so no big deal but I got the RAU cheap so I figured I would try and fix it.

And yeah, I'd assume it would work, given the form factor. Interesting, I'd never even thought of that.

Yeah I checked all the pins from one side to the other and got connectivity but it has been some time since I have messed with it. Yeah the RAU-30 is usually a very forgotten device.

It's always caps. And yeah I haven't picked one up yet, I have a Super CD too. But it would be awesome to have the briefcase largest-ever console unit set up

The Super SD System 3 seems like a perfect match for the LT. Cost shouldn't be a deterrent once you get into LT ownership territory, nor if someone is considering paying for a Super CD-ROM.

Funnily enough I just bought one today. £300 was always way above what I'd be willing to pay, but this one was half that. Still, the project for the adaptor continues. I'm at the last stage of soldering 70 odd wires... Probably won't do it all in one day..

Here's an imgur gallery of the progress. Gonna see if I can paste it into a story of sorts, but there's bits missing So this was the first thing I did. Cut off the PC Engine connector with a Dremel, then cut a chunk out of the AV booster PCB to slot it in. You don't actually need to cut as much off the AV booster PCB, but it's fine because I used a loads of epoxy putty to bond the two. kind of a test-fit with bluetack Cutting a hole for the bus. Obviously yours doesn't have to be this neat... *ahem* Looking side by side with a PC Engine, it looks like this was the optimal fit. Note the gap. This wasn't useless, since I figured out how much epoxy I would need. Had an idea: If I insert the bus into the CDROM2, then insert the AV booster, everything has to be lined up correctly. Then we just add generous amounts of epoxy, and slide the AV Booster PCB in. This took a while. Initially there was too much epoxy on the bottom, and I tried to add paper to stop it bonding with the plastic of the case. Eventually, I just added a lot to the top, figuring I'd add more if needed once the distances etc were set. Came out rock solid, so I just sanded down the bottom a bit for the next step: Soldering, yay. Didn't take too long, some of the points didn't have a lot of solder. I'm almost done now, I just have 23 more joins and I'm done. More pics to follow when I finish, + testing. *edit* I also had to Dremel some material from the bottom of the AV booster, desolder some components and cut traces. I'll get pics of that if I remember. *edit 2* The other alternative I gave some thought to was getting a custom PCB made that's just the right size with all the holes in the right place and traces from one side to the other. It's probably the "right" thing to do, but it's not a lot less work, and I don't have to wait for the PCBs to arrive. I guess it depends on how quickly you can de-solder and solder. If I had to do a lot I would, but I don't think there's a huge market for these.

Well.. it's all good, but I was just about to test, but the adaptor won't reach from the scd. And I use the same adaptor for both my core unit and the scd. I'm not dumb enough to test it out on the LT, so we'll just have to wait for another adaptor

Testing it out. Was worried some connections were loose, but it was just a tight fit on the Turbo Mullet. Everything worked fine! Just need to test it with the LT now, but I don't anticipate any problems. Calling this one a success o

Interesting this. I had always seen the AV booster also and had thought that it appeared to have the same dimensions or very close to that of the LT Super CD-Rom adaptor. Great little project and test you carried out here 👍
