Geocities Japan is shutting down next month, and a lot of content will disappear.
One way to deal with that is that you can assume that the Wayback machine will archive all of the good bits for us... However,
- That didn't work so well for the Duomazov Brothers, whose site has portions available, and large portions also missing.
- Japanese sites often aren't as well-indexed as their western counterparts, due to assumptions made by web developers on both sides of the ocean (including the Wayback Machine people).
So, I'm trying to put together a few sites that you (and I) might want to archive before they disappear, despite the fact that much of the content will be in Japanese (who knows ? Maybe a few years from now, you'll be able to understand more than you do today...)
If you'd like to archive to your own machine(s) for personal reasons, you do it with 'wget'...
Here's another easy way to make a backup ... www.petekeen.net/archiving-websites-with-wget
Gaming-related (including walkthroughs):
www.geocities.co.jp/HeartLand-Suzuran/9038/ - Several game walkthroughs which probably can't be found elsewhere
www.geocities.jp/hori3948/game.html - walkthroughs for several systems, including a few for the PC Engine
www.geocities.jp/hori3948/link/link-pce.html - an index to lots of walkthroughs for the PC Engine; many of them opoint to the other links here, but others go elsewhere including nicovideo
www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/9081/ - Seems to be Tengai Makyo 2 data and walkthrough
Developer-related:
www.geocities.jp/team_zero_three/ - Ki's detailed notes about various timing measurements on the system. Mix of Japanese, English, and visual data.
www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/2004/pcedoc/pce_docj.html - Bero was another emulator author from way, way back... fpce is also
www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown/2004/fpce.htm
Repair-related:
www.geocities.jp/hiropong_7650/pc_engine/pc_engine.html
Please reply with any other useful additions.
