What I almost never see talked about is Bakushou Yoshimoto Shinkigeki. I think that game is the kind of thing people hope for when they first hear about Kato-chan and Ken-chan. It's a platformer so dense with jokes, most of them visual gags you can get without Japanese knowledge, that it's arguably not as much a funny platformer as much as it is a collection of jokes tied together by platforming. It doesn't do anything particularly innovative with the mechanics (to the point that it probably felt kind of old fashioned when it came out in 1994), but it still has a good feel and is mostly fun (with the exception of the ice level). And for what it's worth, it gets a good reaction when I show it to people on Twitch. It's a weird, unique little title that you can't find anywhere else but on the PCE, and I feel like it should be more popular than it is.
Runners up are Gomola Speed and Genji Tsuushin Agedama, but I do occasionally see those brought up when people talk about hidden gems. The former is one of the most original games on the console, and the latter is a unique take on auto scrolling platformers that I like enough to speedrun.

I've read about this but never played it. It'll be something that I'll keep my out on.
Another game is MOMOTARŌ KATSUGEKI 桃太郎活劇. Many know this as the one Momotaro game that Westerners can play with it's Wonder Boy-esque game play. I really do hope that a fan translation gets released, unless one did and I missed it.

Great shouts on both games. I too, would love to see a translation of Momotarou Katsugeki.

Sword Master us a cool Shining Force style game with Light Crusader style chiptunes. The sprires in the isometric battle scenes are all animated and some are so big they don't fit on-screen. The little details and animations go a long way to make the battles more entertaining and less tedius.
An example is an enemy unit that is a trebuchet or some kind of catapult, which is operated by a couple goblins. You actually see them load and fire it. It's only a few frames but really cool in a game with a real variety of unit sprites.
The chiptunes have a nice unique FM like sound and the battles feature sampled effects and voices.

Here's a link to the PCE Bible's info page on the game for anybody who's curious. Kinda has a darker looking, "Mega Drive graphics" look going on that's unusual for an Engine game.

Tengai Makyou Kabuki Ittouryoudan is a one on one fighter that I quite enjoy. Colorful graphics, great controls/gameplay, and the moves/combos are easy to pull off. Though the last boss is pretty tough/cheap. If you like one on one fighters and have a Arcade card you should definitely have a copy since it's cheap.

I'm not a huge fighting game fan but that's one I'd actually like to track down. My Arcade Card could use the workout anyway.

Speaking of Arcade Card games 3X3 Eyes is one that gets low/moderate attention, but no talk at all about fan translating. I'd love to be able to actually play through this game, but if I remember right it's loaded with Kanji. Kinda the exact opposite of the Ranma 1/2 digi comic with it's easier to navigate "for kids" Japanese.

Although I think that it is technically possible to die, you pretty much just coast through by choosing each option. Private Eyedoll is great and has some of the best graphics of the generation, but it is the extreme opposite of 3x3 Eyes and very difficult to play through if you aren't fluent in Japanese.

How about some love for the Motoroader series? Don't see that talked about much. I'd love to try Motoroader MC though, I like Super Sprint style games

Motoroader MC is a killer app. It's so much fun with 4+ people. Just make sure out the controls beforehand.

For me it's Blood Gear. great graphics, excellent side-scrolling action levels mixed with top down RPG exploration. Everything feels great to control, the story is decent, the graphics are top notch, and the music is good (even though it's PCM sound for whatever reason). I guess people don't talk about it because they can't read the language, but if any game in the PCE library is worth making the effort for, this one is. It's weird how people clamor for more action games and get excited whenever a new hidden shooter is discovered, but Blood Gear still costs like 15 bucks and is just an excellent game all around. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KjOzARswx8

I picked up a Super SD System 3 so I been trying out games I never got around to in the past. I been having a lot of fun with Hellfire S. Even though it's another shooter but I really like the strategy of using the 8 way shot. It took me some trial and error to figure it out and finally pass the first stage. It also looks great for a non super cd game.

It also looks great for a non super cd game. After playing the Genesis version I had trouble getting into the PCE CD version once I finally nabbed a copy. Other than the cutscenes (which blows away Toaplan's other CD-ROM2 game with cinemas Zero Wing) the game kinda felt "flat" to me personally. And it wasn't just the lack of parallax either. I'm probably in the minority here though.
