Hey PCE / Ys fans.
I have taken some games. So far, Download 2, Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, and soon Cotton.
I remastered the music so it didn't suck, balanced with the sound effects more, then released nice reproduction copies with new artwork and shit.
I know this isn't a quite a homebrew, but I wasn't sure where else to drop this...
Anyways, I been working on and off a project for years called "Ys Perfect Edition." As I am a collector of Ys soundtracks, and well.. there are a MILLION of them. I thought it would be fun to take what I considered the best versions of each song, master them properly and swap those tracks out in the game.
I realize that the original game is amazing, and nearly perfect. I also think the PCE CD music is also more or less the best of all versions of Ys.... So no need to replay telling me this project is a waste of time, lol. Think of it as an alternative version to the original game.
I have most tracks swapped out, now comes the painful task of remastering all tracks so they match eachother.... and also so the volume is the right level in the game.
I also just started going over cut scenes... I found a lot of background noise / hiss when Adol meets Lilia in the cut scene right before Ys 2 starts.. I cleaned up the audio, very pleased with the results. No more hiss!
Now I am on the fence with some songs in the game. There a about 3 tracks I just don't like any version of except the Original PCE CD version... What should I do? Swap them anyways? I have thought about just keeping them untouched, maybe remastering them... Or possibly hitting up some music buddies and getting totally new remixes made up. Songs that I am on the fence about are end boss cuts, and regular boss music. (just going off the top of my head here)
I have also thought it might be fun to release a reproduction of the game as a two disc set. one disc being the original, the other being all new cuts...
I would love some feedback / suggestions on this project!
