Hey all.
Just discovered this board. I used to be active over on the pcenginefx forum (handle 'Lord Thag' there) but kinda dropped off the radar due to IRL. I recognize quite a few of the names here, and pcenginefx seems to be a ghost town these days, apparently some kind of split happened?
Anyway, I find myself with time for retro gaming these days, so I joined up. Nice to meet all of you, and I look forward to talking with some of the regulars from the old board.

As far as I know the old PCEFX had a drama explosion and closed down to be read only now - no one can post there. Glad to hear you found this new forum, welcome!

Awesome, and welcome!! So great to see more programmers come onto the field here; thank you and please do not hesitate to reach out if you're needing help with any of the HuC stuff! Will do - massive thanks! I have finally managed to set myself a neat environment and started some coding. Getting my head around maps & tiles now. I am very impressed with what HuC has to offer and how quick it is in general. Excited! PC Engine 4life

If you're using Elmer's "new" HuC I highly recommend trying Cosmigo's ProMotion (https://www.cosmigo.com/) for making maps and tiles; it's heads and shoulders better than Mappy.

Thank you for the link - I just downloaded the basic version to play with it - looks great. My only knowledge of maps / tiles is from obeybrew website (btw. it looks like it is down now!). I see Pro Motion doesn't export to .fmp format? I need to research what other formats HuC supports. The main thing that confused me in mappy was that I understood .fmp was storing the map itself + tiles (block index on the right of the mappy editor). Apparently I need to additionally load tiles on the top of it, with set_tile_data() - I need to read up a bit, though I bet it is just a matter of time before I get some real progress

Elmer's HuC supports both .fmp and .stm for tilemaps, and .pcx and .png for tile sheets (and sprites). The fmp is basically a coordinate file for where tiles from the .pcx will go (afaik) Please come join us over in the Homebrew section ( pcengine.proboards.com/thread/376/huc-aka-new-support-thread) and we can try to answer as many questions as possible. I mostly do art, so my programming knowledge is too limited to help much there but I can help with getting stuff out of Pro Motion.

Hey, this is Filler. I've worked on unofficial English language translation patches for PC Engine including Bubblegum Crash, Maison Ikkoku, Lady Sword, and the soon to be released City Hunter. I've also worked on the translation patch for Welcome to Pia Carrot on the PC-FX. Cabbage (somewhat indirectly) introduced me to the board. I'm just glad to have access to a place where folks like Elmer, SamIAm, and Cabbage hang out. I was afraid I may have lost a way to contact those folks when PCEngineFX went offline.

Welcome Filler! I've enjoyed some of your translations and look forward to your City Hunter trans. I used to own a copy of it but couldn't deal with the language barrier so it ended up being something I put in to get a Sunsoft music fix. Thanks for all your hard work. God bless.

Hi Folks,
42 year old Swede here. Growing up in Sweden, the only childhood connection I have to the PCE/TGX is drooling over the amazing screenshots from this mythical console in video game magazines. Fast forward 'til last week I bought my first PC Engine Core Grafx at a local retro gaming event. I picked up Ninja Warriors, Mr. Heli and Märchen Maze as well. Sadly I realized that my CRT didn't take NTSC so I was forced to play on my 50" flat panel instead. Needless to say it wasn't very visually pleasing. However I did love the games. I've since then ordered an RGB SCART cable and as soon as it arrives I expect to enjoy a much better picture.
Other than the PC Engine, I have mostly Nintendo consoles and handhelds as well as my childhood C64.

Welcome! It’s hard to use systems from a different region. NTSC vs PAL is quite a hurdle

Welcome! I’m lucky I’ve always had CRTs that accept NTSC although I do nearly everything by rgb anyway. And why yes of course I will take your marchen maze as a hello offering!
