I can't wait to see someone speed run this. I bet it's just ripe for that kind of treatment. My personal hope is to see a speedrun of co-op mode. Please be sure to post a link in this thread to your future Humble Bundle release when it surfaces. Definitely

Maybe you could speed run it if you have the time. I have a toddler and my wife and I both work full time. I've only beaten 4 games this entire year. As fun as it would be to try to get into speed running, this ain't happening.

This looks absolutely excellent, congratulations!
And wow! ... what an amazing job of programming on the 7800. I'm not really familiar with the system, so I just took a look at the specs ... ouch! That's a fascinating, but complex console to get such a good result out of. Many, many kudos!

What an attractive little game! Great job on this, looks extremely professional. How large was your team?

This looks absolutely excellent, congratulations! Thanks, and now you know what "that thing with the softsynth" I was working on is And wow! ... what an amazing job of programming on the 7800. I'm not really familiar with the system, so I just took a look at the specs ... ouch! That's a fascinating, but complex console to get such a good result out of. Many, many kudos It's pretty different, yeah. But I think a lot of the complexity is from how the available literature describes the hardware. If you look at how Maria (graphics chip) does her thing, and compare it to designs which use a framebuffer rather than something like the NES, SMS, TurboGrafx, etc. it makes much more sense. But fitting a whole framebuffer in memory would be too expensive, so the display is chopped into little regions and Maria does her draw list parsing and rendering by line. The address space can be thought of as a big texture and you're just moving the u,v cursors around with lousy granularity. With that in mind the "tricks" to do some of the effects in the trailer and get the fillrate up become more obvious. What an attractive little game! Great job on this, looks extremely professional. How large was your team? Thank you! The core team (affecting the content) was five people. But there were more involved during package design, focus tests, etc.

Don't be afraid to document any of your other 7800 development challenges/observations here. Most of us eat that stuff up and enjoy discussing it even though there are those like myself who aren't programmers.

Sure, once the game is out and things have calmed down a bit I'd like to do a series of writeups on the effects and techniques used. Kind of like David Shadoff's translation patch series in the development section. Of course if you'd like to know about anything specific, feel free to ask .

Rikki & Vikki is now available on Steam! Packaging for the Atari 7800 should be all wrapped up soon and then I'll go deal with Humblebundle.

Phew, that's enough Steam. Rikki & Vikki is now available on Humblebundle... or at least a Humble Widget! If you're in too much of a hurry to read through the game's space-age HTML Help file, check out the Quick Start Guide. For those not keeping up with the AtariAge topic, we had to delay the Atari 7800 version to " Early 2019" but it shouldn't be too much longer!

Would you guys be interested in sending a demo copy to our Midwest Gaming Classic show in April? We got around 15k attendees last year so most games can get decent coverage. If not no worries. I thought I'd throw that out there.
