The recent U-turn on the specs and the promises that they've been making for a year-and-a-half now should (IMHO) really raise some red flags with potential purchasers. The hidden "pre-order" goal tiers that are embedded in the html of their website should raise even more. For gawd's sake folks ... at this point I just can't understand why y'all don't just go to Dell's Refurbished page and buy a higher-spec and professionally-built-and-widely-supported Optiplex during one of their regular 30%-50%-off sales, and then run Lakka on it. I may be very old and cynical, but I'm going with the AtariAge skeptics on this one.

Lol I remember a few years back, I was looking at replacing my really, *really* old PC - it ran the highest spec Athlon 64 x2, but the rest of the PC was even older, about 14 or so years old. It would struggle to do much more than browse the internet, and video encoding (it's primary purpose) was painfully slow. And then about 4 years ago I was looking at Core i7's and salivating, as you do, because the whole thing was like a billion times faster than mine. I bought the cheapest surface pro a couple of years ago, and it does me well as a general purpose machine... But I wonder how much those i7's would be now? Well, apparently not very much at all! But realistically, the landscape has completely changed, so I don't even need it now...

I think some skepticism is healthy, but the Video Game History Foundation has allowed itself to be associated with this endeavor. I am certain Polymega will produce, at the very least, a functional product. It’s just a question of build quality and emulation quality, really. It seems their pre-orders are doing well enough. I don’t mind waiting until reviews come out before I make any kind of decision.

I don’t mind waiting until reviews come out before I make any kind of decision. That would seem to be the wisest course of action. There's some interesting stuff coming up on AtariAge today. I know that there are folks here that are friends of Bryan and Eric and trust the whole Polymega project (which Eric has now left), and I'm sorry if your friends are feeling the heat of skeptical public attention bearing down on them ... but that's kinda what should have been expected when the choice was made to ask for people's hard-earned cash upfront, with many big last-minute changes, and with nothing to actually show of the new hardware.

Last minute change -> no more FPGA's. All emulation. Was this announced before the pre-orders started?
Also - the Saturn footage in their video turned out to be arcade footage (Sega Rally) which is why it looked so damned good...

No. They had to release an article through Nintendo Life as their site was down.

They have since released a video of Saturn Sega Rally, but the "reveal" trailer contained footage from the arcade game. URL below at 1:48
