Who all bought one? The idea of being able to have the CD games all in one place is really tempting. I know someone that bought one and they are happy with it and no sound issues on their end.
Considering ordering one.

I don't have one, I don't really like the price point, but it is a neat device. I think it's a shame the way things went down, with just a couple of minor changes, this could have been a real success story. I hope they eventually get to the bottom of things, but I think after the current run of orders are done, I can see them packing it all in.

It's a dream come true and the price is less than I would have paid for the CD image playing feature alone. Unlimited backup saves is also priceless for someone like me.

So what is this? Details? You haven't heard of this? There was a lot of drama around it previously. It's custom circuitry inside a Tennokoe-like shell that connects to the external bus of a capable unit (i.e. everything but a shuttle). It allows you to play CD and hucard games via the SD card, and I'm pretty sure it features RGB out too. The cost is like $300 I think. The drama come from a few miscommunications, a few particularly vocal angry buyers, and some early issues with the design. Small things, but they reacted in a negative way to some of it, and to some people who were actually trying to help.

Yeah, must've missed that somehow.
Sounds like a cool device, though! As for the price, it's a bit steep but not unreasonable, if it works as advertised.

What really makes it great is that it also will play HuCard games, can act as any of the various system cards, including ACD (I think, someone fact check me, there), and maintains a totally separate save game area for every game, so you'll never run out of system save space. But yeah, there are still some bugs. The earliest bugs were fixed with a board revision and some firmware updates, but a couple incompatibilities still persist, and one of the board components was accidentally attached backwards. Still, given the capabilities, and it's ability to replace an Everdrive, the cost of a Core or original PCE and the SDD3 is cost-competitive with a refurbished and modded Duo with Everdrive. It really is the best and fastest way for someone to get into the PCE library.

after the problems and the way the team acted, I am glad I didn't buy one. I don't intend to buy one, either.

Most or all of the known compatibility issues are fixed with the upcoming firmware revision and it will allow you to customize the sound levels. Based on the descriptions of what was adjusted to fix issues with games with fmv and misc, it will likely fix issues deep within other ganes that no one has found and reported yet. For me it is worth having just for CD hacks and translations without cdr issues.

I hadn't heard the team was acting badly. There were some frigging meltdowns on NeoGeo about it. People raising concerns and pointing out problems were getting banned/yelled at. Turns out if you don't test your 300$ product and it breaks, people don't enjoy it.

That sounds like normal NeoGeo drama. Are you sure the folks from TerraOnion were responsible for all that? I mean, yeah, the product could have been a hair more solid, but they're a hobbyist company and they've been making good on the product.

They were posting on NeoGeo, and using that forum for some reason, to communicate stuff It was a train wreck.

Well, given PCEFX went private... I think it will help our community a lot to be more visible.

From what people are describing I'd rather wait for the GDEMU guy to release his CDROM hardware emulator. Feels like they were too ambitious with their device and didn't test it properly. I really don't see any value in something buggy that tries to put everything but the kitchen sink in it as a functionality. Is it that hard to include ONLY CD hardware emulation and focus on that being almost an 1:1 replacement to a CDROM drive? edit: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus except the replacements aren't 1:1
