This week, I watched the Project A-Ko movies 2 and 3. So far, part 1 was the best story-wise. Part 2 still had humor and action, while part 3 had a breathtakingly beautiful opening scene and a silly misconceived romance. But action-wise, it fell flat. In the showdown, so many awesome robots pop up, only for standing aside the fight between A-Ko and B-Ko, doing nothing but gazing. What a missed opportunity - or was it an intentional parody, just to mess with the expectations of the audience? Part 3 is still a hilariously funny parody-fest, but seeing strong A-Ko falling in love with some random masculine motorcycle dude, and bitchy B-Ko neglecting "her" cute C-Ko for the very same guy, feels not right. Still, since parts 1 to 4 can be had for a reasonable low price, I recommend them to anybody interested in silly and lighthearted late 80s anime. On another note, I found this comic, in the hope of a debate: Source: legacy-control.com/comic/confession-time/

Subs are generally better for people who know or are learning Japanese and are interested in the culture. Dubs are better for people who just want to watch animated shit. That said, as someone who knows some of the language and culture, a good dub/localization is better than subs. The problem is that most dubs and localizations aren't that great.
Ranma 1/2 and Cowboy Bebop had great dubs, for example. Even a native English speaker who is learning Japan is likely to get more accessible enjoyment out of the dubs of those.

I saw Project A-Ko movie #4 yesterday.
Now THAT did tick all the right boxes. There's lots of action, comedy and some drama. Good pacing (which the movies no. 2 and 3 lacked) and well done animation. You'll get to see all the important characters of the first three movies. Plus, an alien invasion in the vein of Macross or Gundbuster with hundreds of space battleships filling the screen. Fuck yeah!
Trailer for the first movie:

I also love that Yoko Shimomura is providing music. She did Street Fighter II and Final Fight.

Dunbine looks and sounds pretty nice, judging from that opening.
On another note, here are two Future Bass music videos animated by Speedosausage that I'd somehow sort into the "anime" category:
Wave Racer: Flash Drive EP Medley Lot's of videogame references in this one.
Snail's House / Ujico*: Pixel Galaxy I spotted an US SNES and purple buttons controller in what looks like a Japanese environment.

Mary and The Witch's Flower, watched it this past staturday on netflik. If you wonder why the animation is so similar to studio ghibli it's because it's producer yoshiaki nishmura, use to work for them. Now he has his own with studio ponoc.
