The mirror mini games were the most enjoyable parts of the game. I might even split them up from the main game and make a game with just mirror mini games in it. (Especially if it makes it more manageable for you). I thought there should have been more of these and the overview stages between skits. You're not the only person to have suggested this! Since I have the code already it might be fun to make a little HuCard game with just those levels. Though I'd have to learn how to use the HuC6280 to make music and not just beeps, hm that's intimidating... The AI in the boss fights was pretty bad. They mostly just walked into walls. I might just give them set attack patterns you have to account for and/or change it so you don't actually have to defeat them. Just grab the orbs and escape. You could even change one or two of the boss fights to the mirror mini games and have to continually hit their ship with the photons and anti photons with the mirrors. I also found a couple of bugs. The eyeball enemies don't die/drop if you get them to fall on the breakable bridges. And for the second last boss, Lilith, for some reason the giant yoga balls are just touching her harmlessly after the first hit. Yeah, the boss fight AI as DarkKobold notes is supposed to be something you can figure out and try to lure them into situations... hence, the second-to-last boss fight (who isn't Lilith, just one of her subordinates) was too easy if you could just trick them into standing in front of a cannon, so the only way to damage them is to trick them into outright walking into bullets. I guess the fact that the graphics are the same as the prior fight doesn't help there, since it could feel like a bug. Probably should've added a laughing animation or something to indicate that while something happened, it won't work. Still, thank you for the feedback! I've gotten very little on the gameplay itself up until now, so it's good to see how other people interpret the game.

I've put together a small TurboGrafx Super CD game over the past few months using HuC and some assembly; you can check it out here on my itch.io page. I also did a writeup on my blog with some coding details (there are a few other articles I've written on there).
I think this may be the first TurboGrafx-CD game to have additional features when using the SuperGrafx? Nothing too fancy, just a few backgrounds here and there, but was still neat to do. Also can cache images to the Arcade Card if you have that enabled.
I am slowly working through the forum's threads and I just wanted to offer positive encouragement for this project! Space Ava 101 looks great.

The developers of the Super HD System's SuperGrafx support actually reached out to me to ensure that the game could be made to work on their device, I was very impressed! So you can thank them FWIW, isolink now supports adding an identifier-string into a previously-unused part of the CD-ROM's boot information sector, so that a developer can mark their game as "(for SuperGRAFX)" ... which emulator authors *may* someday choose to recognize for future PCE homebrew, rather than adding a separate file into the emulator's directory, as the Super HD System's folks did. That should make the process easier for future PCE developers that wish to make CD games that support the SuperGRAFX. isolink also now allows a HuC developer to set their game's name in the CD-ROM's boot information sector, which has always been a part of NEC/Hudson's official games, but was not supported by HuC's isolink previously. Mednafen can also detect CD games that are designed for the SuperGRAFX, and automatically enable its SuperGRAFX emulation ... but that involves overwriting the game's name in the CD-ROM's boot information sector, so I hope that they choose to support isolink's new identifier-string as well! Since you're the developer of the first CD game that actually adds SuperGRAFX features, you may wish to take advantage of the new isolink capabilities in any updated release of Space Ava.

I talked to the ares lead dev and he was able to get the game to detect as supergrafx CD.. but unfortunately it locks up before stage 1 starts. Waiting on a reply about that now.

Not sure what the difference would be that causes the freeze.

Given that real hardware doesn't freeze... a bug ?

I've recently looked at HuC's SGX and Arcade Card examples, trying to get them building in plain Windows CMD rather than just in the MSYS2 linux-style environment on Windows ... and that made me find a whole raftload of ugliness and broken stuff in the SGX/ArcadeCard/ISOlink combination. nicole : You have my extreme respect for fighting though those problems and getting Space Ava completed! Current/future HuC developers should find things a *little* easier to work on since the problems (that I found) have now been fixed.
